Between Two Educational Organizations

“I as a person feel the desire to belong to a community. This is just human nature, and when this right is denied, it might cause hatred or the feeling of being rejected to occur.

I proudly 'belong' to UNSW as an academic, and it is well known that UNSW is one of the leading tertiary establishments and a beacon amongst other universities in Australia and that it always stands at accommodating its affiliates rights. However, as a Muslim student it has being difficult for other fellow Muslim students and I to practice obligatory prayers and especially Friday Prayers when there is no place to at UNSW to 'accommodate' its affiliates of students and academics. I believe UNSW should stand at granting its affiliates rights.

As a 2009 arrived student, I found it difficult to practice my rights during exam times as the place allocated by UNSW has been obtained to have exams taking place in. As a result the large amount of Muslim students, were forced to pray in the hallways, near bathrooms and other rooms and because there was no place for them to practice Friday prayers for two weeks, the situation caused by UNSW had affected other students including Muslims.

Also as of 13 November 2009, the university had banned 'us' from praying our Friday Prayers in the place we were praying at in 2009. There has been no alternative place allocated yet by the university to 'accommodate' UNSW's Muslim students which is a large part of the academic community.

A message; I call out to the University in which now I feel as a stranger, we are asking for our 'right' to be granted as we are not asking for more than any other student is given” Firas Matar, Civil Engineering student at UNSW.

On the other side, Muslims students at UTS: Insearch were surprised by the new praying room and the two washing rooms which located on level 3 at the blue building. This unexpected and unrequested gift made Muslims proud of being part of Insearch.

Again, two Educational Organizations Interact with the needs of its students differently, what is the reason ?
